Botulinum toxin or Botox – for a refreshed and energized look

When it comes to smoothing fine lines and wrinkles formed due to repetitive facial expressions, Botox is the right injectable for the job. It blocks the signal from a nerve to a muscle, temporarily paralyzing or weakening the muscle responsible for the lines and creases. This leads to a reduced or smooth appearance of wrinkles.

This injectable is ideal for smoothing lines that can imprint a negative emotion on your face or those that make you look sad or angry even when you’re not. Botox® Cosmetic is currently US FDA-approved for improving the look of moderate to severe:

• Forehead lines
• Frown lines between the brows (angry 11s or glabellar lines)
• Crow’s feet (lines and wrinkles in the corner of the eyes)

There are also other areas of the face where Botox can be injected, but these are off-label. It is best to ask your doctor about these applications and whether or not they are right for you. An in-person consultation with an experienced or skilled injection can assess or concerns and give you information about the available treatments.

The initial effects of Botox show up after four to five days, but full results appear after 14 days. The results can last for three to four months, but in some cases, they can be for up to six months. Once the effects wear off, you can get touch-up treatments to smooth out visible lines and wrinkles.

Dermal fillers – enhance your natural beauty and features

Mainly used for restoring volume loss, dermal fillers are injectable treatments that can plump the skin and give it a youthful glow. There are many types of fillers used, but the ones we have at our clinic are made with naturally-occurring substances that the body absorbs and metabolizes: hyaluronic acid (Juvéderm) and calcium-based microspheres (Radiesse).

Hyaluronic acid or HA-based fillers like Juvéderm come in varying consistencies and can be used to treat different signs of aging for a more youthful appearance. They can:

• Enhance the size, shape, and symmetry of the lips
• Soften the look of lines and wrinkles
• Reduce eye puffiness or under-eye bags
• Correct folds and creases
• Contour the face shape or chin/jawline 

The results can last between six and 12 months, depending on the type of Juvéderm filler used. You may also be glad to know that HA-based fillers can be reversed or removed if you’re not happy with the results. This is done by injecting an enzyme called hyaluronidase into the area, which breaks down the HA quickly.

Radiesse, on the other hand, is made with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) and has a thicker consistency than HA fillers. It also typically lasts longer and can be used to:

• Add or replenish lost volume
• Smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds
• Contour the jawline or lower face 
• Correct lines and wrinkles in the hands

The results with Radiesse last 12 to 18 months or longer, but it cannot be dissolved like Juvéderm. This filler, however, has the ability to act as a scaffold under the skin, providing structure and a volumizing effect. Also, it works as a collagen stimulator that helps the body produce new collagen.

Profhilo – deeply hydrates the skin from within 

Also referred to as a “beneath the skin injectable moisturizer”, Profhilo is a bio remodeling injectable that restores hydration, improves laxity, and addresses signs of aging. It is made of 100% pure hyaluronic acid that can transform the skin and give it a firm and luminous appearance. 

What makes Profhilo different from other injectables is that it stimulates the production of collagen (four types), elastin, and proliferate fat stem cells. It stays under the skin for 28 days, slowly and evenly releasing hyaluronic acid and stimulating essential skin proteins. It can improve the tone, texture, and overall quality of the skin.

One unique thing about Profhilo is that it uses the BAP or bio-aesthetic points, which refers to only five injections on each side of the face (a total of 10). This minimizes the risk of bruising and helps achieve good results with fewer sessions and less discomfort. This technique also delivers a natural and lasting refreshed appearance. 

Patients see improvements after two sessions, which will continue over two to three months. The results can last for about six months, but this can still vary depending on the patient. Touch-up treatments are recommended every six to nine months to keep the youthful results.
