Dr Morkel Jacques Otto is a highly qualified clinician and entrepreneur. He graduated as a Medical Doctor (MB Ch B) in 1981 from the University of Pretoria in South Africa (SA). He also completed master’s degrees in Family Doctor Practice (Pretoria 1987), Medical Pharmacology (Pretoria 1989) and Philosophy in Medical Law (Glasgow Scotland 2001). Postgraduate diplomas from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA) include Member of the Faculty of General Practitioners (MFGP 1988), Forensic Medicine (Dip For Med 1990) and finally the Diploma in Sedation and Pain Control (Stellenbosch University 2002). Other postgraduate qualifications include Member of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine (MBCAM 2015), Member of the Royal College Pathologists Medical Examiner (RCPath (ME 2020). Postgraduate Certificates include Harvard Medical School Postgraduate Education’s Safety, Quality, Informatics and Leadership (SQIL 2021) and Training to Teach in Medicine (T2TM 2022).
Dr Otto is licensed to practice medicine in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and South Africa. His professional affiliations include Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), Pharmaceutical Scientist Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), Member of the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN), Member of the North American Menopause Society (NAMS), Co-founder and Board Member of both the Association of Intravenous Micronutrient Supplementation (AIMS) United Kingdom and AIMS China.
Between 1982 and 1990 in South Africa Dr Otto gained experience in (1) trauma working in the gold mining industry and when serving in the military as a Lieutenant Medical Officer in the SA Defence Force Medical Corps, (2) in cancer epidemiology as coordinator of the South African Cancer Registry, in (3) forensic medicine as forensic medical examiner and in the (4) pharmaceutical industry from 1990 to 1993 as Medical Director of Abbott Laboratories, South African affiliate.
In the UK, from 1993 to 2005 he had worked in (1) anaesthesia and sedation (former chairman of the Society of Conscious Sedation (SOCS) UK) and (2) forensic medicine (police surgeon). From 1999 he began to focus his research and development on aesthetic and regenerative medicine including working in South Africa, China, and Thailand since 2006 up to the present. Dr Otto had established in 2001 his aesthetic medicine clinic at 122 Harley Street in London and in 2015 he relocated his aesthetic practice to his home address in the countryside town of Tiptree in Essex. He has been Medical Director of IntraVita International since 2016 up to the present, being responsible for R&D, manufacturing IntraVita’s intravenous nutrient product range and clinician training.
Over a period of 23 years since 2000 Dr Otto has trained more than 3,000 practitioners as an international Key Opinion Leader (KOL) in aesthetic treatments, in intravenous nutrient therapy (IVNT) for health promotion and in regenerative therapy e.g., platelet-rich lasma (P-RP) therapy, Intravenous Nutrient Therapy (IVNT), intravenous Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) therapy, intravenous Natural Killer Cell (NKC) therapy and Peptide Therapy (PT). He has given nearly 90 lectures and conducted masterclass live demonstrations in aesthetic and regenerative medicine at major international conferences from 2003 to the present including in the UK, EU, Russia, South Africa, Australia, New Zeeland, Middle East, India and the Far East. He has been an advisor/consultant/trainer for several companies including Isolagen Europe Ltd, UltraShape Inc, Ipsen (Dysport) Aesthera Inc., Lumenis, Alma Lasers, MyCells PRP Laboratories, Merz Aesthetics, Panacee (Bangkok), IntraVita International and Jing-Meng Stem Cell Laboratory (Beijing).
As a pioneer in aesthetic medicine and regenerative medicine he introduced the cosmetic indication of Platelet-rich Plasma to the UK (2006), South Africa and China (2007) and EU (2009). Intravenous nutrient therapy (IVNT) was introduced to the UK in 2009 and in the beginning of 2014, Dr Otto introduced the use of absorbable multi-directional barbed (COG) PDO threads in the UK and South Africa. Dr Otto manufactures his own range of intravenous nutrients for IntraVita International Ltd. Other special interests include quality of life enhancement using bio-Identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) hormone pellet implants for both men and women.
Achievements in research and development (R&D) include his participation in international clinical trials as a (1) Co-Principal Investigator and co-author of the Ultrashape device’s EU CE-Mark Phase III trial (Non-invasive Body Contouring by Focused Ultrasound: Safety and Efficacy of the Contour I Device in a Multi-centre Controlled Clinical Study.
