Botox vs Juvéderm Volux: Which is Better for Improving Jawline Definition?

Jowls, excess fat, and sagging skin can sometimes make your chin and jawline obscure. This can negatively affect the entire harmony of your face or make you self-conscious about your appearance. Fortunately, nonsurgical options are available to help you show off a more defined or attractive jawline.

Whether you’re dealing with a receding chin/jawline or just wanted to have a more attractive facial profile, injectable treatments can help. BOTOX® and dermal fillers are two nonsurgical options that can improve the shape of your lower face by adding more definition in the area or softening a very prominent jawline.

Continue reading to learn more about these injectable treatments and determine which one is right for you.

BOTOX® (Botulinum toxin)

Although BOTOX® is commonly used for treating or improving facial lines and wrinkles, it can also change the shape of your jawline without cuts or longer downtime. You can turn to Botox for contouring or slimming your jawline, especially for softening or reducing an asymmetric or prominent jawline.

When used in jaw slimming, Botox is injected into the masseter muscles, the muscles used for chewing and clenching the teeth. It temporarily blocks the signal from nerves to muscles to prevent contraction. This weakens the muscles, which will then reduce its visibility or prominence.

Results: You may be able to notice some slimming in the treated area within two weeks, but significant results are visible 4 to 6 weeks after the injection. The effects can last for up to 6 months or longer with repeated injections. The softening and slimming effect can give you your desired facial profile.

Number of Botox units you need: This varies from patient to patient and will depend on the strength of your muscles. First-timers are likely to need more (about 60 units) to see a visible effect. The number of units needed is likely to decrease the more often you receive Botulinum toxin injections.

Juvéderm Volux filler

The Juvéderm range of fillers has an injectable treatment exclusively made for treating the chin and jawline area. Juvéderm Volux is a structural filler that contains 25mg of a manufactured form of hyaluronic acid. It can restore the volume in the jawline, as well as give you a more defined chin or lower face.

Volux chin fillers can be injected in the chin and jawline area, strengthening the support in the jaw to lift the lower part of the face. Do take note, however, that it is sometimes advisable to sagging cheeks or middle face before addressing a weak chin. This is to achieve better facial harmony and provide the face with enough support.

Results: Juvéderm Volux has been effective when used in the chin and jawline area. Some patients report seeing immediate signs of improvement after the treatment, but full results show within a couple of weeks. Its effects can last for 18 to 24 months. It is also suggested that Volux can moisturize the skin and help restore its elasticity.

What makes Volux unique: Volux has a much higher density than other dermal fillers. This allows injectors or aesthetic doctors to sculpt and mold the injectable gels into the desired shape. This makes it suitable in providing lifting benefits to the skin, as well as adding chin and jawline definition.

Which is better for Improving Jawline?

It all depends on your goals or how you want your chin and jawline to look.

If you have a prominent jawline and want to slim or soften its appearance, Botox may be the right choice. This injectable can improve the look of a stronger jawline by reducing its width or making it appear rounder. Be reminded, however, that Botox can only treat enlarged or overactive muscles, not alter bone structure.

If you, on the other hand, are looking to add more definition and structure to your lower face, Juvéderm Volux is the injectable for you. It can change the shape of your chin or restore more volume in the jawline. It is scientifically designed for contouring the lower face, but it can also improve the tone and elasticity of the skin.

A consultation with an aesthetic doctor can determine if Botox or Volux is right for you. You can also choose to combine both injectables to see optimal results. You can read our previous post to find out why it is better to start small and think non-invasive when it comes to chin enhancements
