Can You Clean and Unclog Nose Pores?

Compared to pores on other parts of your skin, the ones on your nose are usually larger. They also can appear bigger and become more noticeable if the pores get clogged. This happens when excess sebum (or oil) and dead skin cells settle beneath the hair follicles.

Overexposure to the sun can make your nose and other pores appear more prominent. Other factors that can contribute to pore enlargement include:

  • Excess sebum production
  • Acne
  • Lack of exfoliation (leads to the accumulation of dead skin cells)
  • Genetics (enlarged pores can be inherited)
  • Increased humidity

If you’re dealing with clogged and prominent nose pores, here are a few things that can help:

Cleanse your face

Wash your face at least twice a day (and after a sweat session) to remove dirt, oil, and makeup on your pores. Choose a gentle cleanser or a non comedogenic one to reduce skin irritation. Also, you shouldn’t scrub too hard, as this can damage your skin and make your nose pores more prominent.

Be sure not to wash your face several times a day, as overdoing can dry and irritate your skin. When this happens, the skin will have to overcompensate by producing more oil, which can clog the pores and lead to more breakouts.

Don’t forget to exfoliate

Exfoliate your face no more than twice a week to remove dead skin cells. Physical exfoliation products can do the job, but you have to be gentle, as vigorous scrubbing can damage the skin. You can also use chemical exfoliation products like peeling pads with glycolic acid.

When exfoliating, avoid scrubbing your nose or face aggressively, as well as using a harsh exfoliator. You can also consult a skin or aesthetic doctor for other safe and effective ways to remove dead skin cells.

Wear sunscreen daily

Since sun exposure can make your pores look bigger, you need to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. Choose a water resistant product with an SPF of 30 or higher and apply 20 to 30 minutes before going outside.

A much better way to protect your skin, of course, is to avoid or limit sun exposure. This is especially true during peak hours or middle day, between 10am and 4pm. If you need to go out at these hours, use an umbrella, wear a hat or sunglasses, and seek shade.

Avoid habits that can make pores visible

Some of the things you do, including the products you use can make pores more visible. This is especially true for over-exfoliating and wearing oil-based makeup.  These habits can lead to clogged pores and skin irritation.

Other habits that can make pores appear larger include:

  • Picking and touching face often
  • Not removing makeup before bed
  • Skipping sun protection
  • Over cleansing your face
  • Not treating acne
  • Harsh extractions of pimples or blackheads

Consider aesthetic treatments

Skin and aesthetic doctors may recommend treatment to clean your pores and minimize their appearance. Here are some of the procedures that can unclog and improve the appearance of large pores.

Laser GenesisThis non-invasive laser procedure gently heats the deeper layer to skin to promote collagen growth. This can plump up and tighten the skin, leading to a visible reduction in your pore size. Laser Genesis can address large pores, lines and wrinkles, skin redness, and uneven texture.

Dermapen MicroneedlingThis procedure punctures the skin using a handheld device with tiny needles. This results in micro-trauma, which breaks up fibrous and uneven scar tissues. It also promotes natural healing and stimulates growth of new tissues. It can improve the appearance of large pores, lines, wrinkles, acne, and scars.

Hydra DermabrasionThis facial uses the power of water and oxygen to gently hydrate and exfoliate the skin. Hydra dermabrasion involves exfoliation or T-zone intensive care that can clear the pores and remove oil and blackheads. It also uses formulated serums to nourish the skin and improve skin tone and texture.

Pearl ProcedureThis uses pulses of light in a pre-selected pattern to treat the skin’s top layer. The laser simultaneously delivers heat to the deeper layers, triggering the skin to form a natural protective dressing. This will peel off after three to four days, revealing healthier skin. It can help with enlarged pores, sun damage, age spots, and wrinkles.
