Chin Enhancements: Start Small and Think Non-Invasive

When it comes to addressing signs of aging, sagging skin and wrinkles are not the only ones we should focus on. We should also pay attention to the lower part of the face, as a receding chin is another area that can betray our age. As we age, we naturally lose soft tissue and a bit of bone, resulting in a rounded or less defined chin.

Weak or receding chins can sometimes throw off facial proportions. This is why it is understandable why many are seeking improvements. While this can be seen as a purely cosmetic endeavor, chin enhancements can also help patients professionally. This is especially true in looking more confident and making the right impression.

Why start small?

If your chin or jaw area isn’t what you want it to be, you have plenty of options to improve it. Surgical solutions are available, but it is advisable to start small or with baby steps. This will help you:

  • Determine the right options based on your age and goals
  • Know and understand the changes you want to do in the chin and surrounding areas
  • Avoid surgery-related risks like shifting of the chin implant (which can negatively affect facial harmony)

Here are some non-invasive options for jawline and chin enhancement:

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are not just for restoring and filling in volume loss. They can also be used for strengthening a weak chin and jawline. Chin fillers today are commonly made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring substance in the body. Juvederm Volux is a common type of HA-based filler used for contouring the lower face.

This structural filler is mainly intended to create and restore volume on the face. It contains 25mg of a manufactured form of HA and has been effective when used in the chin and jawline area for  (Jawline and chin enhancements). Juvederm Volux, furthermore, can moisturize the skin and help restore its elasticity, while delivering natural-looking results.

The effects of Juvederm Volux can last for 18 to 24 months. Some may see immediate signs of improvement, but significant results show within a couple of weeks of treatments.

For lower face enhancements, dermal fillers can:

    • Define and strengthen the chin and jawline
    • Lengthen the chin and lift the lower face
    • Add volume to the chin
    • Widen the midface to improve facial harmony

Botulinum toxin or Botox

Botox may be commonly used for treating wrinkles and fine lines, but you can also turn to it for jaw slimming and contouring. For face slimming, Botox is injected in the masseter muscles (used for chewing and clenching the teeth) to relax them, resulting in a slimmer and more contoured jawline.

The number of Botox units needed for jaw reduction will depend on the strength of the muscles. On average, about 60 units will be required for first time patients to see visible results. The dosage or unit may decrease as you receive Botox injections more often. A consultation with an aesthetic doctor will let you know what to expect.

You may see changes in the treated area within two weeks, but full results are seen four to six weeks after the treatment. These will last for up to six months or longer with repeated injections.

Fat freezing

If extra fat beneath the chin (double chin) is a concern for you, consider fat freezing procedures. One popular procedure that uses this is CoolSculpting. It has a specialized applicator for the area (CoolMini), which exposes the fat cells to cool temperatures, triggering natural cell death. This gradually reduces the fat layer’s thickness.

Z Lipo is another procedure that uses fat freezing. It also has an applicator (Z Lipo Mini), specifically made to target smaller pockets of fat. These include the double chin, bra fat, and knee fat. It also targets and kills fat cells by exposing them to cool temperatures to slim the treated area.

Ultherapy

Ultherapy in Singapore is a non-invasive lifting procedure that uses time-tested focused ultrasound energy. It can lift and tighten the skin on the face, as well as on the brow, under the chin, and neck area. Ultherapy safely delivers ultrasound energy in the skin’s deeper layers, triggering the production of new collagen.

While you may be able to see an immediate effect after the procedure, significant results show over two to three months. This is the period where the new collagen begins to produce a visible yet natural lift. Further improvements are seen six months following the treatments. Touch-ups are recommended to maintain the results.

With the right non-invasive procedures, you can make a big difference on how your chin and jawline area looks. Contact Cutis Laser Clinics in Singapore today and schedule a consultation with our aesthetic doctor to find out which procedure suits you best.
