Don’t Let Your Eyes Betray Your Age

When it comes to revealing your age, the area around your eyes has a lot to say. As it has the thinnest and the most delicate skin on your entire face, it is quick to show signs of aging or even betray your age. Wrinkles, puffiness, dark circles, and droopiness are just some of the eye area concerns that can make you look tired and older than you are.

The use of eye creams and serums can help, but they can only do so much. If you’re self-conscious about these signs of aging, non-surgical aesthetic treatments are worth considering. Here at Cutis, we have several procedures that can anti-age your eyes and give them a refreshed and more youthful eyes appearance.

BOTOX

What it is: Botox is an FDA-cleared anti-wrinkle treatment. It is commonly used to smooth lines and wrinkles formed due to muscle contractions, including frown lines (angry 11s), forehead lines, and crow’s feet (fine lines around the eyes). It can also help with lifting eyebrows, reducing the appearance of sagging skin in the upper eyelid.

How it works: Botox works by temporarily blocking the signal from nerves to muscles to keep the muscles from contracting. This can soften and smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the eyes to make more youthful eyes. It can also relax the muscles responsible for sagging brows, providing a lift of about one to two millimeters.

What results to expect: You need to wait for about two weeks to see the full effects of Botox. The results can last for 3 to 6 months, depending on the patient. Slight redness and minor bruising at the treatment site are common, but these resolve after a couple of days.

DERMAL FILLER

What it is: Dermal fillers are cosmetic injectables commonly made with hyaluronic acid or HA. These gel-like substances are used to restore volume loss, plump the lips, contour the face, and improve the appearance of eye bags and dark circles.

How it works: Fillers are injected under the skin to fill in the gaps due to unwanted folds and creases. They work by imitating a (naturally occurring) substance in the body like hyaluronic acid to rejuvenate the skin. They then boost the supply of the said substance to improve the skin’s overall appearance. They can reduce puffiness and dark circles, filling out hollows or tear troughs that cast a shadow under the eyes to get more youthful eyes appearance..

What results to expect: The results are almost immediate, but do take note that it can take two weeks for the fillers to fully blend and settle with the surrounding tissues. The results can last between 9 months and 2 years, depending on the type of filler used. There may also be some redness and bruising at the injectable, but they resolve after a few days.

ULTHERAPY

What it is: Ultherapy is a US FDA-cleared procedure for non-invasive tightening of the skin on the face, brow, and under the chin. It can also help sculpt the upper and lower face, give you a more contoured jawline, and improve the look of lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.

How it works: The procedure safely delivers time-tested focused ultrasound energy into the skin’s deeper layers. It helps stimulate the production of collagen, allowing you to achieve a visible yet natural lift over time. Ultherapy uses the body’s regenerative process to non-invasively lift the skin on your brows and other areas of the face.

What results to expect: You may see initial improvements after the treatments. Real and significant results, however, appear over 2 to 3 months, with further improvements up to 6 months after the procedure. The effects can last for 1 to 2 years and after that, you can get maintenance or touch-up treatments once or twice a year.

PLASMAGE®

What it is: Plasmage® is developed as a non-invasive alternative to Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery. It is a medical device that uses patented fractional Plasma that can tighten the skin on the eyelid without cutting the skin. It can improve droopy or sagging eyelids with minimal discomfort and downtime.

How it works: The procedure delivers plasma energy to the tissues, heating the skin almost immediately. The energy discharge starts when the device’s tip is close to the skin (but doesn’t directly touch it), creating tiny dots of trauma on the upper or lower eyelid. Plasmage removes skin through sublimation, dissolving or evaporating the skin’s top layer. This gives a lifting and rejuvenating effect around the eye area.

What results to expect: You may see improvements immediately, but the redness and swelling after the treatment may hide them. Do take note that the treated area may also form a crust on its own after 5 to 7 days. You can see more changes after 8 weeks, with full results seen 5 to 6 months following the treatment. The results can last for 1 to 2 years.
