Dr. Sylvia at the Reset Symposium: Improving Skin Quality with MFU-V & CaHA Fillers

Dr. Sylvia recently presented her research on the synergistic effects of combining CaHA fillers and MFU-V at the Reset Symposium: Regenerate with Radiesse. It showcased the versatility of CaHA fillers for volumizing and biostimulating, with Dr. Sylvia’s research focusing on addressing brachial laxity (upper arm skin laxity) and lower face rejuvenation.

This work has already gained recognition, with a study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jocd.14573) and another currently under review by Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery – Global Open Journal.

We are grateful to Merz Aesthetics for their support through generous grants for our research projects. We are also pleased that Dr. Cecilia X Chen was able to participate in the symposium.

So, what are CaHA fillers?

CaHA fillers are composed of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier. No allergy testing is required for these types of fillers since the microspheres are similar to a mineral found naturally in the body.

What can it do: CaHa fillers are commonly used for adding volume to the cheeks and other facial areas. It has the ability to act as a scaffold under the skin, providing structure and promoting natural collagen production. You can turn to these fillers to:

  • Improve the appearance of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds
  • Replenish lost volume over time
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Restore volume to the hands and reduce hand wrinkles
  • Contour the jawline

How it works: The CaHA gel microspheres fill in volume in targeted areas and stimulate the body to produce its own collagen. Over time, the body absorbs the gel and metabolizes the CaHA microspheres, leaving behind your natural collagen.

What results to expect: CaHA fillers provide immediate and long-lasting results, lifting and adding volume to reduce signs of aging. Results can last between 12 and 18 months, which is longer than hyaluronic acid-based fillers.

What is MFU-V?

Microfocused ultrasound energy with visualization (MFU-V) is a US FDA-cleared procedure for naturally lifting and tightening the skin on the face, brows, and neck. It is also European CE-marked for sculpting and lifting the upper and lower face, neck, and décolletage.

What can it do: MFU-V is considered a nonsurgical facelift procedure that can take years off your face without cuts, stitches, or injections. You can turn to it to:

  • Improve fine lines and wrinkles on the décolletage
  • Tighten loose skin without downtime
  • Treat or improve general skin laxity
  • Firm up or add definition to your jawline
  • Stimulate collagen production

MFU-V uses ultrasound imaging to enable aesthetic doctors to see beneath the surface of the skin and target the areas that need the most attention. This ensures that the energy is delivered where it will be most beneficial.

How it works: MFU-V uses microfocused ultrasound energy with visualization to lift and tighten your skin. This energy penetrates the deeper layers of your skin, triggering the production of fresh collagen. Over time, this new collagen gives your skin a visible yet gentle lift.

What results to expect: You may be able to see initial improvements right after the procedure, but significant results will appear over the course of two to three months. This is the period when the new collagen begins to lift and tighten your skin. You can see further improvements six months after the treatment.

Why combine CaHA fillers and MFU-V

CaHA fillers with MFU-V can address different signs of aging on your face, helping you achieve a more youthful appearance. CaHA fillers can smooth out lines and add volume to your cheeks, while MFU-V can tighten loose and saggy skin. Together, they can enhance your facial profile and give you a rejuvenated look.

Both treatments provide regenerative benefits for complete facial rejuvenation. CaHA fillers provide volume instantly and boost collagen production in the outer skin layers, while MFU-V focuses on the deeper structural layers to promote the creation of new, youthful collagen. This combination approach tackles volume loss and skin laxity, resulting in lasting and natural-looking results.
