Dr. Sylvia Shares Tips for a Happy and Healthy Intimate Area

Our very own Dr. Sylvia is once again featured in Vogue Singapore in an article by Alli Sim, titled “Does your Y-Zone need its own skincare regime?”. She shared tips for a happy and healthy feminine area and explained why it is essential to keep the vulva and vaginal areas clean. The article also offered recommendations for skin-compatible products when taking care of the area down there.

What is the vulva?

Dr. Sylvia mentioned in the article that “our vulva is even more sensitive than the skin on our face”. This area often gets neglected until infections, irritations, and discomfort arise. Do take note, however, that the vulva is different from the vagina, a common term used to describe the female genitals.

According to Dr. Sylvia, “The vulva includes all of the tissues that surround our sexual organs, which include the fleshy outer lips of the vulva and the thinner more delicate flaps known as labia majora and minora, respectively”. The skin here is more sensitive than the facial skin, which is why it is important to keep it clean and healthy.

Keeping the area dry and clean

The vulva is an intimate zone and there are a number of things that can throw off the balance of the area’s microbiome. Humidity, Dr. Sylvia noted, is definitely a challenge because it promotes an environment that encourages an overgrowth of bacteria and organisms.

It is important to keep the vulva dry and free from any irritants to keep it from becoming swollen or irritated. “Some women may experience chronic dampness in the vulva area usually from friction when thighs touch together, combined with using the wrong type of underwear and the use of tight pants or even workout clothing,” says Dr. Sylvia.

Here are some Dr. Sylvia’s tips for a happy and healthy Y-zone as indicated in the Vogue article:

  • Keep the area down there dry, friction-free, and away from unnecessary irritants.
  • Choose cotton underwear and ditch G-strings and thongs. It is also important to change sweaty gym clothes as soon as possible.
  • When removing pubic hair, it is best to trim the hair close to the vulva or opt for laser hair removal.
  • When choosing products for vulva, suitable formulas are usually bland without any irritating ingredients.

Our intimate area rejuvenation treatments

At Cutis Medical Laser Clinics in Singapore, we have 2 non-invasive procedures for rejuvenating your delicate areas: Ultra Femme 360 and The Pink Intimate System. Both treatments can help you feel better in your own skin and improve your sexual confidence.

Ultra Femme 360 – is a US FDA-cleared non-invasive procedure for rejuvenating a  female’s intimate wellbeing. This can help improve vaginal laxity, treat symptoms of urinary stress incontinence, as well as enhance sexual satisfaction. It is commonly used for vaginal tightening and labia remodeling.

The procedure triggers your body’s natural regenerative process to produce new and healthy collagen. Take note that the collagen restoration process takes time, usually within 60 to 90 days after the procedure.

The Pink Intimate System – is a painless lightening system that uses a topical application that is CE marked and HSA Singapore registered. It can lighten darkening of intimate areas, as well as unsightly blemishes without side effects or downtime. The Pink Intimate System also lifts and rejuvenates the intimate area.

Improvement on the area can be seen after just the first application. Just be sure to follow the recommended protocol (5 sessions with an interval of 7 to 10 days apart).
