Got a Wide and Square Jaw? Try a Nonsurgical Jaw Reduction Treatment

While a square-looking, jawline is considered attractive in men, many women often desire an oval or a V-shaped face. This is mainly because a wide jaw can give a masculine look and distort facial harmony. There are also cases where the size and shape of the lower face is disproportionately bigger compared to the upper face.

In most cases, a wide or enlarged jaw is hereditary. Its size and shape, however, can change over the years due to certain habits like bruxism (teeth grinding) and incessant chewing. These activities continuously exercise the mandible and masseter muscles, which then causes the jaw to increase in size.

If you too are not so happy with the size or shape of your jaw, you may be glad to know that you don’t have to go under the knife to improve its appearance. Nonsurgical jaw reduction is now possible with injectable treatments like botulinum toxin (more commonly known as Botox).

Although Botox is more popular as wrinkle treatment, it can also provide face slimming and jaw contouring benefits if injected along the jaw angles. The best part is it offers subtle and natural improvement without the complications and recovery time associated with surgical jaw procedures.

How does Botox for jaw slimming work?

During the treatment, Botox is injected in to the masseter muscles, or the same muscle used for chewing and clenching the teeth. Once injected, Botox will block the activity in the said muscles, causing them to relax or shrink. This reduces the appearance of a wide or square jaw, resulting in a less masculine face.

Botox injections also provide a noticeable softening and slimming effect that helps in giving patients V-shaped facial profile.  The whole procedure can be completed in as little as 10 minutes and visible slimming of the jawline can be seen within two weeks, but full results can be seen at least 4 to 6 weeks after the treatment.

How does Botox feel? Does it have side effects?

Botox is administered using very tiny needles, so you won’t have to worry about pain. The procedure may feel like tiny bite ants or pin pricks, but most patients find the treatment tolerable. If you are anxious about needles, it is good to know that a numbing cream will be used to make the treatment more comfortable.

Common side effects include bruising or redness of the treatment area. This is temporary and usually subsides on their own after a few days.

How many Botox units (dosages) are needed for jaw reduction?

This depends on every patient, as each individual has varying muscle strengths. This makes it important to consult an experienced aesthetic doctor to discuss your goals, expectations, and recommended dosage. This is especially true if you are doing Botox jaw reduction for the first time.

On average, first timers will need about 60 units to see noticeable results. This amount, however, is likely to decrease with repeated Botox treatments

How much does Botox cost?

Some aesthetic clinics charge per area (flat rate), while some charge per unit. This makes it important to check the treatment pricing and only proceed with the procedure if you’re okay with the cost.

Here at Cutis Medical Laser Clinics, we charge Botox at $18 per unit. You may also be glad to know that we are transparent with the charges. We will only charge you based on the number of Botox units needed depending on the strength of your muscles.

Can you combine Botox with other injectables?

There are cases where aesthetic doctors may suggest combining Botox with dermal fillers to achieve optimal results. It is also good to know that at Cutis Laser Clinics, we use fillers made of hyaluronic acid, which is a substance naturally present in the body. This makes the injectable safe and effective.

Dermal fillers may be used in the chin for reshaping the area and creating an enhanced V-shape and facial contour. A special injection technique that requires fewer injection points is used to administer the fillers.
