Here are 3 Ways to Boost Your Skin’s Collagen and Achieve Youthful-Looking Skin

We’re born with soft, supple skin and an abundance of collagen. This collagen is the key building block for our tendons, ligaments, joints, organs, and of course our skin.

Once we hit our mid to late 20s, our body’s collagen production comes to a halt. By the time we’re in our 30s, collagen production is at a decline, making it more important than ever to follow a proper skin care regimen.

To keep your skin looking healthy and youthful, it’s important to find ways to boost collagen production at the deeper layers of the skin. At Cutis, we offer several treatments to jumpstart your collagen production.

1. Ultherapy

Developed by Ulthera, Inc., Ultherapy  is a non-surgical neck and face treatment with the ability to tone and lift loose or saggy skin. What makes Ultherapy different than other cosmetic procedures is that it targets tissues deep below the skin using FDA-cleared ultrasound technology.

The ultrasound energy targets the skin’s foundation layer (SMAS/ Muscle) which is also the same depth as a surgical facelift.

The Ultherapy ultrasound treatment is a good option for individuals with signs of maturing skin and mild to moderate skin laxity. If you want to stay ahead of the side effects of aging, this skin tightening treatment may be for you.

2. PDO Threads

Polydioxanone, otherwise known as PDO, is a type of synthetic fiber that has been safely used in the medical field for years. Dr. Perfect V-Line Thread Lift is a minimal-invasive procedure that uses PDO threads to provide an immediate lift in the middle and lower face.

The inserted threads will then be absorbed by the skin as it dissolve over about 6 months. In addition to acting as absorbable skin sutures, the inserted PDO threads will promote the skin’s healing process causing it to produce new collagen around the threads which boost elasticity to tighten sagging skin.

Although the threads will dissolve, the lifting effect may remain up to 2 years depending on how your collagen holds the lift.

PDO threads act similar to a facelift treatment by lifting sagging tissues for a period of two to three years. The thread lift treatment results in no downtime and patients can resume their normal activities directly after leaving the clinic.

3. Exilis

Exilis is a mono-polar radiofrequency device that uses radiofrequency energy that have the power to oscillate (vibrate) at two million times per second. This motion causes the molecules within the dermis to heat up rapidly, while the device uses its cooling features to keep the skin safe and comfortable.

The radiofrequency energy breaks down old collagen bonds and promotes the production of new bonds of collagen. The heat energy also promotes collagen contraction which results to tightening and contouring of the skin.

By maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regime, you can expect to see long-term results for months to years following the procedure.

With these FDA-cleared treatments, depositing collagen back into your skin or should we say your “collagen bank” has been made safer and more effective.

Collagen is crucial for soft, plump, and supple skin but can diminish as we age which is why it is only necessary to boost your skin’s collagen production. And without an adequate amount of collagen, the skin will show noticeable signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, loss of volume, and sagginess.

Engaging in certain lifestyle habits such as smoking, drinking, and eating an unhealthy diet can contribute to dull, tired-looking skin by slowing down the collagen-building process.
