How to Effectively Get Rid of Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Fine lines and wrinkles can make your skin look dull, tired or even older than your actual age. These appear as the skin naturally loses collagen and elastin, the two proteins responsible for giving your skin a smooth and youthful appearance.

Natural aging in combination with years of overexposure to the sun and poor lifestyle habits such as smoking further accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin. This results in noticeable fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes and at the corners of the nose and mouth.

While there is nothing you can do to stop skin aging, there are safe aesthetic treatments that can reduce or eliminate the appearance of those stubborn lines. Botulinum toxin and dermal fillers at laser clinics in Singapore can help remove or relax these lines without going under the knife.

Botulinum toxin

Also known as an “anti-wrinkle treatment”, Botulinum toxin is a non-surgical injectable treatment that can effectively remove lines and wrinkles while helping you maintain facial mobility for a natural and well-rested appearance.

Commonly known as the brand Botox, this procedure is FDA cleared to treat the forehead lines, wrinkles in the corner of the eyes, and frown lines in between the brows.

Botox works by temporarily blocking the signal from a nerve to a muscle to relax and soften the wrinkles formed due to muscle contractions. This makes Botox ideal for lines formed due to muscle contractions usually caused by smiling, squinting or frowning such as frown lines, crow’s feet or smile lines, and horizontal forehead lines. You can also consider this injectable to correct lines around the lips and neck and lift droopy eyelids or eyebrows.

Botox treatment can take at least 15 to 20 minutes. For some who are afraid of needles, rest assured that the procedure can also include the application of a topical anesthetic cream to provide a numbing sensation before the procedure is performed. While this involves injection, many patients report experiencing minimal to no pain at all.

Do take note that the results will not appear immediately. It may take about two weeks to see the full effect of the treatment. It may last for about three to six months, but its effectiveness tends to last longer with repeated or touch-up treatments, as the muscles become less prominent.

There may be no recovery time needed, but you may experience temporary redness on the treated area that can last a few minutes. There is also a small potential bruising at the injection spot, but this will resolve in a couple of days and can be concealed with mineral make-up.

To get natural-looking results, be sure to trust only an experienced and a certified aesthetic doctor. It is important to trust someone with the right experience and a good knowledge of the facial anatomy to get the results you wanted.

Dermal Fillers

As its name suggests, dermal fillers are used for “filling in” lost volume to different areas of the face to give you a refreshed and youthful look. They can help decrease the appearance of fine lines and dark circles around the eyes, contour the face, enhance the cheekbones, plump the lips, and define the chin to promote a well-rested and rejuvenated look.

At Cutis Laser Clinics in Singapore, we use fillers made from hyaluronic acid (HA) and calcium, which are both naturally found or present in the body. HA dermal fillers like Juvederm can be used to improve fine lines, eye bags, and nasolabial folds (lines at the corner of the nose and mouth). You can also turn to fillers to fill the lips, add volume in the cheeks, and increase the height of the nose.

Calcium-based fillers like Radiesse, on the other hand, can give you a refreshed look by plumping up the skin and replenishing volume loss over time. It can be used to improve facial lines, add volumes to the cheeks, and fill both the lips and nasolabial folds.

The fillers work by using injectable gel to the areas of concern to fill up unwanted fine lines and folds. Depending on the amount of fillers needed, the treatment can take about 30 to 90 minutes and the results can be seen almost immediately. The fillers may also last between 9 and 18 months, but this will still depend on the type of fillers used.

However, if you have static or very deep lines, or those that stay even if you’re not moving your face, dermal fillers can be combined with Botox>. This combination can give you a longer lasting result that looks natural.

Two weeks before your procedure, make sure to avoid taking fish oil or high doses of Vitamin E supplements, aspirin and ibuprofen as these agents may increase the risk of bruising and bleeding of the injection site.
