How to Stay Consistent with Your Skincare Routine

In a world of instant gratification, being patient has become extremely challenging. This applies to almost anything, including skincare, which is why we get so caught up in products that claim to have miracle ingredients and deliver immediate improvements. We want and expect instant results or our skin to change after just a few days.

Genuine results, however, don’t happen overnight. You need about three to four weeks of consistent use before improvements start to show. It’s almost the same as brushing your teeth; you do it a few times daily to make sure that your pearly whites won’t rot and you maintain good oral health. Patience and consistency are essential.

Are you finding it hard to stick or be consistent with your skincare routine? Below are a few things that can help:

Stick to the basics

It’s easy to get overwhelmed if you have 10 or more products to apply or need an hour or so to complete your routine. Keeping it simple or sticking to the basics is imperative if you want to be consistent. The basics include three steps: cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting (sunscreen).

You can always add in a few extra steps as needed like exfoliation once or twice a week. And if you’re seeing a few fine lines, dark circles, or puffiness around your eye, a multitasking eye cream like Dr. Sylvia’s Brilliant Eye Complex is worth considering. It can help fight the common signs of aging skin for a more youthful-looking eye area.

Set a reminder

Having a busy schedule makes it easy to forget some things, including taking good care of your skin and yourself. If you have a habit of forgetting them or saying “I’ll do it later or tomorrow”, set an auto reminder on your phone. You can also have a Post-it note on the mirror as a daily reminder to look after your skin.

Display your products and keep them in one place

Instead of placing your products in a drawer or medicine cabinet, keep all the ones you’re using neatly arranged or displayed on your bathroom counter. You can also use a cute tray to organize or make them appealing to your eyes. Keeping them in a single place and all lined up helps you avoid wasting time looking for them.

Track your progress

Seeing results can help you stay motivated. Take a photo of your skin before starting a skincare routine and commit to it for about four weeks. Take pictures every week to compare how your skin has changed from the previous ones. And when you see improvements like faded spots and a healthier complexion, you’ll be motivated to turn your regimen into a habit.

Turn your regimen into an experience

Make your skincare relaxing and inviting by creating a spa-like experience. You can do this by playing some music, silencing your phone, or using a spa or skin headband to keep your hair off your face. This can then make your skincare routine into something that will help you de-stress or wind down daily.

It gets easier

Sure, it does take a few weeks to form a new habit, but the reward is truly worth it. With patience and consistency, you will soon pass that period of keeping up with your routine, and applying products will almost become like second nature to you. And this comes with the benefit of continuing to keep your skin healthy without having to think about it.

Of course, there will be times when you’ll forget or skip some steps in your routine due to sleepiness or tiredness. It is okay, but make sure that it doesn’t turn into a habit.
