Is There a Way to Ward Off Fine Lines and Wrinkles?

Although you cannot entirely prevent fine lines and wrinkles, you can take some measures to decelerate or delay their development. The right anti-aging skincare routine can help you keep a youthful appearance while also preventing existing wrinkles from worsening.

Read on and learn how you can ward off these visible signs of aging:

Always apply sunscreen

Sun exposure is one major contributor to skin aging, including the development of premature fine lines and wrinkles. This can also make your skin more prone to other signs of aging like sagging skin and sunspots. This is why you should wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 daily.

We recommend the Clear Defense SPF 45 or Sheer Defense Tinted SPF 46 from Dr. Sylvia Skin Care. Both sunscreens are non-greasy, lightweight, oil-free and can protect the skin from the sun without causing breakouts.

Remove makeup before sleeping

If you want to maintain or preserve your skin’s integrity, you need to make sure that you always remove makeup before bed. This rids your face of dirt and cosmetics residue that can clog your pores and lead to breakouts or dull-looking skin.

Look for a non-drying makeup remover that is right for your skin. Micellar water is a good choice, as well as those that are oil-free and suitable for sensitive skin and eyes. Don’t forget to apply a face cream or moisturizer after cleansing your face.

Always moisturize your skin

Fine lines and wrinkles are more likely to show up or become more visible if you have dry skin. This makes moisturizing a must, especially in possibly slowing down the development of these signs of aging.

You can also layer your skincare products by applying a serum first, followed by an anti-aging cream or moisturizer. If you, for instance, have dry skin, you may consider using face oil at night or layering it under your makeup during the day.

Be gentle with your skin

You may not realize it, but some of the things you do daily can put extra pressure on your skin and contribute to fine lines and wrinkles. This is especially true with repetitive tugging and rubbing on your eye area. The same is also true for sleeping on side and using a pillowcase with rough fabric that can tug on your skin.

This is why you should be delicate with your skin and avoid repetitive rubbing and tugging. You should also gently pat your skin when cleaning or applying creams and serums. Sleeping on your back and using silk pillowcases are also beneficial.

Consider aesthetic treatments

If you, on the other hand, already have visible fine lines and wrinkles, it is a good idea to try nonsurgical cosmetic treatments. Here at Cutis Medical Laser Clinics, we have injectable treatments that can improve your skin’s elasticity and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Juvederm Volite

This is an innovative anti-aging injectable treatment made of hyaluronic acid or HA (a naturally occurring substance in the skin). When injected, HA combines with the water in the skin to help remove fine lines, as well as improve its hydration elasticity. You can use Volite on the face, neck, décolletage, and hands.

Juvederm Volite can stimulate your body’s natural collagen production. In fact, studies suggest that results can last up to nine months and provide significant improvement in skin quality for up to six months. This then eliminates the need for several sessions or treatments.

With this injectable, plumping effects may be noticed after the procedure. However, full results are visible after two weeks. Pinpoint bruises and needle-marks in the treatment areas are common side effects and can last five to seven days following the procedure.

Botulinum Toxin (or Botox)

Botulinum toxin (popularly known as Botox) is a US FDA anti-wrinkle injectable that can treat or reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles or those that are formed due to repetitive expression. It can help you deal with crow’s feet, frown lines (angry 11s or glabella lines), and forehead lines.

This works by temporarily blocking the signal from a nerve to a muscle to relax the wrinkles formed due to muscle contractions. The entire procedure can take less than 30 minutes and may involve the use of topical anesthetic cream to improve patient comfort.

With Botox, there is also no downtime needed, so you can immediately go back to your normal routine. The results can last between three and six months, but it is likely to last longer with repeated injections. Just be sure to avoid lying down and manipulating the area at least four hours after the treatment.
