Laser Hair Removal is Not Your Only Option for Lasting Hair Reduction

When it comes to removing unwanted hair with lasting results, laser hair removal is often the first method that comes to mind. While this treatment is highly effective in reducing hair, it is not your only option. There is also the IPL (intense pulsed light) and LHE (light heat energy) hair removal, which offer long-term results.

At Cutis Laser Clinics in Singapore, we have the laser hair removal using the Cutera CoolGlide laser. This FDA-cleared device works by delivering pulses of laser light, which is absorbed by the pigment. Then, the light is converted into heat, destroying the hair follicles and disabling future hair growth.

Apart from laser hair removal, we also have IPL and LHE hair removal. Read on to learn more about them, as well as their differences and similarities with laser hair removal.

Prowave IPL Hair Removal

The Cutera Prowave IPL hair removal is an FDA-approved device that emits a special light into the skin. The pigment in the hair absorbs the light, inhibiting the ability of follicles to grow further. Its main difference with laser is that it uses a broad-spectrum visible light (like a light bulb) instead of a laser.

The IPL device has multiple wavelengths that can deliver light to hundreds of hair follicles at a time. This then makes the method a good choice for reducing unwanted hair in larger areas like the chest, legs, and back.

Good candidates for IPL hair removal are patients with fair to medium fair skin tone with dark colored hair. Those with dark complexions are not suitable, as the device also targets the skin itself. Doing so may increase the likelihood of getting burns and skin pigmentation.

LHE Hair Removal

LHE hair removal uses both light and heat energy to effectively remove unwanted hair. It works by delivering flashes of broad spectrum light and heat on the area of concern. It targets the hair pigment, which increases the temperature of hair follicles. The combination of light and heat energies leads to the destruction of hair follicles.

At Cutis Laser Clinics, we use the Touch Elite with LHE technology. This maintains the highest level of efficacy while also being fast, non-ablative, and relatively painless. It also enables the use of low energy levels, which makes it a safe hair removal method.

LHE hair removal is less intense and ideal for those with darker and sensitive skin types. Its main difference with laser and IPL is that it uses two energies, which reduces light fluency. The energy emitted by the device also targets the follicles, not the skin, so there is no damage to the skin during the procedure.

What to remember

When compared to traditional hair removal methods like shaving, waxing, and tweezing, these three methods offer better results. All can inhibit hair growth for the long term, but they cannot remove 100% of your hair. They may be able to remove 80 to 90% of your hairs, and any hair left behind should be fine and light.

Regardless of which method you choose, you’ll need several sessions to see lasting and optimal results. This is because only about 10 to 15 percent of your hair is permanently treated in one session. It is also advisable to go to aesthetic or laser clinics, not spas and salons, when considering any of these hair removal methods.

Laser, IPL, and LHE may not offer 100% permanent hair removal, but they deliver permanent hair reduction results. They are also better than waxing and shaving, as they can save you from lots of unnecessary waste, especially when using plastic razors and disposing of waxes, wooden applicators, and clothes/paper strips.
