Most Requested: Aesthetic Treatments for Women in Their 40s

Your skin goes through a lot of changes in your 40s. This is the period where you may notice a loss of firmness in the skin, along with wrinkles, sun damage, and sagging skin. While these are a normal part of aging, this doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything to reduce or delay their appearance.

You can always choose to look younger than you are. Here are the most requested aesthetic procedures for women in their 40s.

1. Botox and fillers

Many women in their 40s tend to see changes associated with loss of volume and elasticity. This is also the period where they may see wrinkles or prominent lines around the eyes, between the eyebrows, or on the forehead. If this is the same for you, cosmetic injectables like Botox and dermal fillers can help.

Botulinum toxin or Botox works by temporarily blocking the signal from a nerve to a muscle. This then relaxes the muscle responsible for wrinkle formation, softening or smoothing the appearance of lines. It can be used on frown lines between the brows (angry 11’s), forehead lines, and crow’s feet or wrinkles around the eyes.

It may take 5 to 7 days for the effects to kick in, but you’ll need two weeks to see the full results. The severity of lines may also affect the time required for Botox to work. With smaller or fine wrinkles, you may see improvements quicker. The effects can last between 3 and 4 months, or longer with touch-up treatments.

For volume loss, creases, and folds in the face, dermal fillers are worth considering. They work by filling in the gaps due to lost volume and boosting the skin’s supply of a specific substance like hyaluronic acid (HA) or Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA). They can also be used to plump up the lips, add volume to the cheeks, and improve skin hydration.

At Cutis, we have fillers that can soften lines and creases, restore volume loss, and enhance a weak chin/jawline profile. We also have fillers for non-invasive hand lift, ideal if you’re dealing with wrinkles, crepey skin, and visible veins and tendons on your hands.

2. Skin lifting and tightening

The body’s natural production of collagen declines with aging, leading to the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. While some creams and serums can help reduce the look of certain lines, no product can lift or improve sagging skin. The good news is you can turn to non-invasive skin lifting aesthetic procedures like Ultherapy and Titan.

Ultherapy in Singapore is a US-FDA cleared non-invasive procedure for lifting and tightening the skin on the face, neck, and chest. It can help define your facial contours, lift the skin on your brows, and smooth wrinkles on the décolletage. Ultherapy delivers time-tested focused ultrasound energy on the foundational layers of the skin, stimulating the production of new collagen.

You can see improvements after the procedure, but significant changes appear over a period of 3 to 4 months. This is where the collagen starts to lift and tighten the skin. The results of Ultherapy can last for a year or two, but this can still depend on the patient. Find out if you are a good candidate for Ultherapy

There is also Titan, a US FDA-cleared procedure for tightening the skin and enhancing the skin tone on the face, neck, and other areas of the body. It uses a handheld device that creates deep dermal heating to stimulate collagen. It can tighten the skin and improve its elasticity and firmness without needles or longer downtime.

You can turn to Titan if you have mild to moderate skin laxity, as well as jowls and sagging skin in the face and other areas of the body. Improvements can be seen after a single session, but you’ll need 3 to 4 treatments to see optimal results. You can see significant changes within 3 to 6 months, with results that can last between 1 and 2 years.

3. Eyelid rejuvenation

Eyes are among the first areas to show signs of aging. Apart from fine lines and wrinkles, some are also noticing droopy eyelids or sagging skin around the eyes. Plasmage® can help, especially if you are looking for a non-surgical alternative to blepharoplasty (surgical removal of excess skin, muscle, and fat along the folds of the eyelids or below the lashes).

Plasmage is developed as an alternative to eyelid surgery, which can rejuvenate the eye area without cutting the skin. It uses a pen-like device that delivers plasma energy to the tissues, heating the skin almost immediately. This creates tiny dots of trauma on the upper or lower eyelid skin.

This heating removes excess skin through sublimation, evaporating or dissolving the skin’s top layer without cuts. It also promotes collagen production and triggers tightening of the skin fibers. You can see improvements after 8 weeks, with optimal results after 5 to 6 months. The results can last for 1 to 2 years and can be repeated if needed.

4. Body contouring

Fat storage tends to shift in the midsection as we age. Many women are noticing an increase in belly fat, especially after menopause. If you’re finding it a bit hard to zip up your jeans, non-invasive fat reduction and body shaping aesthetic procedures can help. These involve the use of heating, cooling, and other modalities to contour your body.

At Cutis Medical Laser Clinics in Singapore, we have a number of non-surgical aesthetic procedures that can slim and contour your body.

  • ZLipo – uses fat freezing (Cryolipolysis) or controlled cooling temperatures to treat and kill fat cells in the belly, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, and chin.
  • CoolSculpting – also uses cooling temperatures to target and kill fat cells in the abdomen, arms, thighs, chin, and other areas of the body.
  • Vanquish ME – targets and kills fat cells using contactless and selective radiofrequency heating. It is ideal for circumference reduction in the belly, flanks, and thighs.
  • ZField Dual – uses electromagnetic pulses to stimulate involuntary muscle contractions. It can help you tone your muscles, lift/firm your buttocks, and get visible abs.
  • ThermoSculpt – stimulates muscles and helps reduce fat using diathermocontraction (diathermy + faradic muscle contraction). It has different treatment protocols for achieving total body reinvention.
  • Exilis Ultra 360 – uses radiofrequency and ultrasound technology to help tighten the skin, shrink fat cells, and reduce the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks.
  • Acoustic shockwave therapy – breaks down fat cells, reduces cellulite appearance, and helps stimulate collagen production using targeted vibrations and wave pulses
