Is one session of MFU-V really enough?

One main issue about many non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures is that they require multiple sessions to see results. While some need about three to four treatments over a period of a few months, others require about six to eight sessions. Multiple sessions can be costly and time-consuming, which may then discourage people from pursuing treatment.
Microfocused ultrasound with visualization (MFU-V) claims to require less and provide natural-looking results. This ultrasound-based skin tightening procedure is said to usually take just one session to help the skin jumpstart its collagen production. How true is this? Is a single treatment enough to visibly lift and tighten your skin?
Continue reading as we dive a little deeper into MFU-V and find out if one session is actually enough to see your desired results.
MFU-V or Microfocused Ultrasound with Visualization is a US FDA-cleared non-invasive procedure for lifting and tightening the skin. It can be used in the face, brows, neck, and décolletage, and improve the lines and wrinkles on the upper chest. It is also European CE-marked for sculpting and lifting the upper and lower face, neck, and décolletage.

How it works: MFU-V uses a handheld device that delivers time-tested focused ultrasound energy into the skin’s deeper layers while bypassing the skin surface. It then triggers a natural response in the body, helping stimulate the production of fresh and new collagen. This allows the skin to achieve a visible yet natural lift over time.
What does the procedure involve: During the treatment, it is normal to feel tiny amounts of energy sensations. These don’t cause extreme discomfort and are only present while the ultrasound energy is delivered to the skin. Your provider may apply a topical numbing cream to reduce discomfort or ask you to take painkillers (ibuprofen) a few hours before if needed.
What’s great about MFU-V: One unique thing about MFU-V is that it uses real-time imaging or visualization. This enables the provider to see the layers they are treating and effectively deliver ultrasound into those areas. This also allows your doctors to visualize skin composition and structure and then create a hyper-personal lift based on your needs and goals.
For most patients, a single treatment of MFU-V is enough to deliver a visible lift. A session can effectively allow the skin to kickstart the body’s natural collagen production. Then, visible yet natural-looking results will gradually develop within two to three months after the treatment.
How long will it take to see the results: You may see initial improvements after the treatment, but as previously mentioned, significant changes appear after two to three months. This is when new and fresh collagen starts to lift, firm, and tighten skin. You can also see further improvements six months after the procedure
How long do the results last: Generally, the results last for one to two years, with some reporting up to five years. Individual results, of course, vary based on your skin’s natural aging process and other factors such as lifestyle habits, skin health, and severity of concerns. You can maintain the results with healthy habits, sun protection, and good skincare.
Can you combine MFUV-with other procedures: Yes. You can pair it with cosmetic injectables likedermal fillers. This combination can improve different signs of aging on the face with MFU-V tightening and lifting lax skin and fillers, correcting folds and jowls, and restoring volume loss.
