Non-surgical Nose Lift using Fillers: Are They Safe and Effective?

As the size and shape of the nose can affect a person’s overall beauty and appearance, it is clear why some people desire for a change. It is good to know that surgery is no longer the only way to achieve the look you want. A non-surgical option, which involves the use of dermal fillers, can enhance the shape of your nose and contour your face.

You can turn to nose fillers to:

  • Correct bumps
  • Increase the height of the nose bridge
  • Straighten a crooked or ‘saddle’ nose
  • Correct small defects from surgical rhinoplasty

This makes nose lift possible without cuts, incisions, and risks associated with surgery. It also shows results and faster healing time with minimal to no discomfort.

Here’s what you should know about the safety and effectiveness of the Nose Fillers:

What are fillers and What types are used? Are they safe?

Fillers are basically injectable gels that are inserted underneath the skin. It is used to “fill in” volume to increase the height of the nose bridge using very fine needle injection.

The fillers used for nose enhancements are usually made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring substance in the body (commonly found in the eyes, joints, and skin). This then makes the procedure safe and minimizes the risk of developing any allergic reaction from the treatment.

Furthermore, HA fillers like Juvederm Ultra Plus is firm and moldable, which brings delicate and natural-looking results. It is also good to know that the body absorbs the hyaluronic acid after several months while leaving new collagen as it dissolves.

How does the procedure works?  Does it hurt?

The treatment involves the injection of dermal fillers into the nose tip and nasal bridge using very fine needles. The procedure is also quick and can last for about 30 minutes to an hour depending on the area to be treated.

The injection of fillers may feel like a tiny ant bite, but the sensation varies from patient to patient, so little to no pain is usually expected during the procedure.

To improve patient experience, your aesthetic doctor may also apply a topical anesthetic cream to numb the area and before the procedure to minimize the discomfort.

Does it have downtime or side effects?

While fillers are safe and do not have any downtime as there is no cutting or incision of the skin, side effects can still be expected.

As with other injectable procedures, side effects may include slight redness and bruising on the injection site. If bruising is present, it can last up to 10 days. Make up can be applied on the area to conceal the redness or bruise.

To lessen the risk of bruising, avoid taking Fish Oil, St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E supplements, aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen at least two weeks before your filler treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding in the injection area.

As the procedure is non-surgical, it has no downtime and you can immediately return to your normal routines after the treatment.

Are the results permanent?

Results and enhancements from nose fillers can last up to 12 months. The effects are immediately noticeable, but they are subtle and look natural. If you decide to maintain the results, you can ask your aesthetic doctor for a touch up treatment after the body absorbs the fillers (12 months after the procedure)

Filler is a good option if you want just to see immediate results without committing to a drastic change of appearance associated with any surgical procedure.

Fillers are also reversible which means if you don’t like the results, it can be dissolved by injecting a safe enzyme produced by the body called hyaluronidase.

What should you know? Have the right expectations

While nose fillers can enhance the appearance of your nose, do take note that it cannot replace the full results of a rhinoplasty. This is especially true for correcting deformities that usually require surgery.

Fillers are more of a good alternative if you want to achieve a more sculpted nose with subtle and natural-looking results.

It is also important for the procedure to be performed and administered by a highly trained aesthetic doctor with years of experience and effective injection technique. This is essential to have a treatment focused on safety, effectiveness, and natural-looking results.

Can it be combined with other procedures?

You can combine nose fillers with other non-surgical contouring procedures such as Botox, Ultherapy, or PDO thread lifts. When combined with HA fillers, these face lifting and skin tightening procedures can treat wrinkles and fine lines, as well as give you more defined profile and youthful skin.
