Silhouette Soft Thread Lift: Bell’s Palsy Patients Have Something to Smile About

Facial paralysis can be caused by infectious diseases, neurologic or congenital disorders, or trauma to the face. Because of its complexity, treatment for facial paralysis often requires multidisciplinary approaches, from pharmacologic therapy, to physical therapy for neuromuscular retraining, and if clinical trials prove effective, to using an absorbable thread lift.

Probable Use of a Thread Lift Procedure For Facial Paralysis

Bell’s Palsy, a condition that causes muscular weakness in one side of the face due to paralysis of the facial nerve, can sometimes arise from an inflammation that happened elsewhere in the body, as in the case of herpes zoster. Because of its nature, it has been standard to deal with the effects of Bell’s palsy the surgical way, the kind of procedures that are not normally done in an aesthetic laser clinic.

There’s nerve grafting, a procedure that involves moving nerves from different parts of the body to the face to restore more movement and sensation, allowing the patient to better control the muscles. There’s also muscle transfer, or moving tendons and muscles from one part of the body (such as the legs or abdomen) to the face.

Few people have to deal with irreversible damage from Bell’s Palsy, but when they do, the paralysis can knock patients’ self-confidence, making them embarrassed to go out, and further lowering down their self-esteem. Making it worse is the fact that a patient with Bell’s Palsy has distorted speech, further aggravating an already difficult situation and making it harder for the patient to cope.

Facelift thread procedures such as Silhouette Soft, performed in a medical clinic in Singapore and uses absorbable thread cones, may just change the way how patients view facial paralysis, and how doctors are going to treat them.

Use of Silhouette Face Lift in Treating Bell’s Palsy

Recently, the first-ever Silhouette lift sutures were applied to a patient with Bell’s palsy, and the transformation of her face two weeks and three months after the procedure is highly encouraging: from a lopsided grumpy look to a more symmetrical face with a ready smile.

Along with judicious use of fillers, a combination treatment that is common in laser clinics in Singapore, a patient can look as normal as any patient with facial paralysis can hope for.

More than appearances, the patient said that this popular lunchtime procedure in aesthetic clinics in Singapore restored her confidence and her ability to socialize, which she has been avoiding due to having low self-esteem. All these improvements are not just meant to make her look better, however. She can look forward to a higher quality of life, and be able to smile about it.

Silhouette Soft thread lift has already been established as a safe procedure for cosmetic reasons, and it yet has to be proven safe for use among patients afflicted with Bell’s Palsy. Use of lifting techniques, however, is not new to treating Bell’s palsy. One of the traditional treatments performed on the face is direct brow lift, as the brow on palsy-affected side of forehead remains flat when patient raises an eyebrow.

It is still important to have any kind of facial paralysis evaluated by the appropriate health care provider, as treating the condition could possibly affect the rest of the cranial nerves (nerves that arise directly from the brain).
