While your nighttime skincare routine plays an important role in preventing signs of aging like lines and wrinkles, your morning regimen matters too. Starting your day with the right skin care habits can help prevent wrinkles or minimize skin damage that can lead to premature aging.
Here’s a morning routine that can give the care your skin deserves, as well as help prevent wrinkles.
This cleansing method involves two steps, first by using an oil-based cleanser, followed by a water-based cleanser. Double cleansing can benefit most skin types, especially if you have oily or acne-prone skin, as it can fight excess oil without leaving the skin feeling too dry.
Most people use this technique at night, but it can be beneficial in the mornings, as your skin still produces sebum at night. Double cleansing helps get rid of any remaining products you applied before sleeping and prep your skin for your morning regimen.
Many skip this step in their skin routine, but it is a good way to hydrate and refresh your skin after cleansing. Quality toners also contain antioxidants that can fight free radicals and replenish the skin. Many of these formulas, furthermore, help other skincare products penetrate deeper into the skin, improving their efficacy.
At Cutis, we have our Refreshing Toner with Herbal Astringents. This does more than reduce oil and dirt buildup; it can also balance the skin’s pH levels and tighten the skin. The formula also has pore-reducing benefits and is ideal for most skin types, especially oily and problematic skin.
Check out our previous post for the five reasons you shouldn’t skip using toner.
After removing the last traces of dirt and oil, it’s time to use an anti-aging serum. Serums are lighter formulations that contain a higher concentration of active ingredients. They quickly absorb into the skin and help reduce the appearance of skin concerns, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.
If you’re in the market for an anti-aging serum, we recommend Dr. Sylvia’s Age Defying Serum with Skin Tightening Helix. It features a blend of ingredients that can help lift the skin’s appearance and mimic the effects of traditional retinoic products without the associated side effects.
Although many anti-aging serums also offer hydrating and nourishing effects, you still need to apply moisturizer. The right formula helps balance moisture and regulates oil, as well as prep your skin for a smoother makeup application. It can also combat skin dryness and help the makeup last longer.
Just make sure to choose a moisturizer that is right for your skin type. If you have oily, sensitive, or acne-prone skin, we recommend Dr. Sylvia’s Deep Hydrating Moisturizer. It can restore moisture in the skin without the use of oil-based ingredients, as well as hydrate and strengthen the skin without clogging the pores.
Even if your moisturizer has an SPF, you still need to use a separate sunscreen. For optimal protection against the sun’s harmful rays, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and apply 30 minutes before leaving your house. Make sure to apply SPF even if it’s cloudy or rainy outside.
Dr. Sylvia’s Clear Defense SPF 45 with Broad Spectrum is a lightweight, fast-absorbing formula that helps prevent UVA/UVB and infrared damage to the skin. It also offers other skin benefits, such as reducing redness, blotchiness, and hyperpigmentation, and improving the look of lines and wrinkles
Sunscreen does offer sun protection, but don’t rely on this product alone. You should also practice other sun protection measures, such as wearing a wide-brimmed hat and wraparound sunglasses that block 99% of UV light. Read our previous post to learn more about the dos and don’ts of sun protection.
The right skin care habits can help prevent or ward off those pesky lines. Just do take note, however, that these cannot erase or get rid of the wrinkles that you already have. Botox is worth considering if you’re looking to soft or smooth them for a more refreshed appearance.
