Vanquish ME vs Cryolipolysis: The Difference Between Fat Heating and Fat Freezing

Achieving the body you’ve always wanted doesn’t start and end with diet and exercise alone. While both are beneficial in fat reduction and weight loss, some fats are so stubborn that even extensive workouts and healthy eating can do so little in eliminating them.

We have discussed this in our previous blog all about body fat, which explains the difference between visceral and subcutaneous fat and why the latter or pinchable fats (lower belly, thighs, and hips) are very resistant to diet and exercise.

This is where non-invasive fat reduction procedures come in. Two effective devices available in the market today use heating (through Vanquish) and freezing (through Cryolipolysis) to reduce fat without surgery or downtime.

Continue reading to learn more about Vanquish ME and Cryolipolysis and find out what makes each technology unique.

Vanquish ME

Vanquish ME by BTL is a non-invasive fat reduction device that uses an FDA-cleared selective radiofrequency technology. It safely heats the fat cells to reduce inch off your belly, thighs, and arms without cuts, incisions, or downtime.

This device works by delivering selective heating that solely targets fat cells to trigger apoptosis or natural cell death. Exposure to heat causes the fat cells to naturally die over time, which will then be processed as waste in the liver and cleared naturally through the lymphatic system.

The science of impedance, or the resistance of fat to heat compared to body tissues, is mainly attributed to the effectiveness of Vanquish fat reduction. As the fat cells have a higher resistance to heat, this only means that they can absorb more heat energy, which is beneficial in triggering the process of apoptosis.

One unique thing about Vanquish in Singapore is that it can shape or contour your body without touching the skin. The device just hovers over the area of concern using a panel array of heat to target the fat cells, without affecting the skin or the muscles.

Cryolipolysis

While Vanquish uses heat energy, Cryolipolysis uses very cold temperature to eliminate fat.

Also known as fat freezing, Cryolipolysis is an FDA-cleared technology that literally freezes fat cells to the point of natural elimination. It is ideal for treating pinchable fat bulges in the belly, back thighs, arms, and double chin.

Cryolipolysis works by exposing only the fat cells to freezing temperature without harming the skin or other tissues. This triggers the process of apoptosis or natural cell death, which will then cause the fat cells to die naturally and cleared through the lymphatic system and processed as waste in the liver.

This only means that you don’t have to worry about the fat cells migrating to other areas of the body. What makes Cryolipolysis effective is that once the fat cells are frozen and treated, they are gone for good and will never come back.

At Cutis Laser Clinics in Singapore, we have two safe and effective devices that use Cryolipolysis for body shaping and contouring. We have the CoolSculpting by Zeltiq (made in the US) and Z Lipo by Zimmer (made in Germany).

  • CoolSculpting. This works by suctioning the fat bulges using applicators of different sizes. The applicators are specifically made to target problem areas in the belly, thighs, arms, and chin as well as smaller fat areas like bra and knee fat. It gradually reduces the thickness of the fat layer by destroying the fat cells using a controlled cooling technology.
  • Z Lipo. This device targets fat deposit by suctioning the fat bulges in the belly, thighs, and arms using Cryolipolysis. What makes it different from CoolSculpting is that it has two handpieces attached to its device, which can both be used in one session. This means that two areas can be treated at the same time, reducing the overall treatment time.

Which One Should You Choose?

Both procedures are non-invasive, which means that there are no needles and scalpels involved. There is also no downtime, enabling you to go back to your normal routines after the treatment.

Vanquish is a newer device than Cryolipolysis/CoolSculpting, but this does not necessarily mean that everyone should choose fat heating over fat freezing. It really depends on what you want to achieve and what body part you are trying to slim and tone.

It is advisable to consult and have a body assessment with an experienced aesthetic doctor in Singapore to find out which procedure suits your concerns.

Moreover, these procedures can go hand-in-hand with each other. This means you can combine Vanquish and Cryolipolysis and get the benefit of circumference reduction (inch loss of overall area) with spot reduction (for fat bulges) to get better results.

We call this the Fire and Ice Body Fat Removal and Contouring Protocol, a non-invasive fat reduction procedure that combines both Vanquish and Cryolipolysis. This offers optimum body contouring and shaping results without going under the knife.

Schedule Your Body Assessment

If diet and exercise are not giving you the desired result in reducing your stubborn fat, consider any of the technology mentioned above.

Contact Cutis Laser Clinics today and schedule a body assessment with our Harvard-trained aesthetic doctor, Dr. Sylvia Ramirez, to find out which one is right for you.
